Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size of the labia minora, the folds of skin often referred to as the “lips” just outside the entry to the vagina. Women may choose to undergo labiaplasty for various reasons, including discomfort and aesthetic concerns.

Reasons for Labiaplasty

  • Discomfort: Enlarged labia (labial hypertrophy) can cause discomfort due to catching on clothing, rubbing during physical activity, and pinching during intercourse.
  • Aesthetic Concerns: While appearance can be a factor in the decision to undergo labiaplasty, it’s important to recognize that labia come in a variety of normal shapes and sizes. Appearance should not be the sole motivator for surgery in this area.

The Procedure

  • Location: The procedure is performed in our office surgical suite.
  • Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is used to ensure patient comfort.
  • Duration: The procedure is typically well-tolerated and completed within a relatively short time frame.

Recovery and Aftercare

  • Immediate Recovery: Sutures are left in place for 7-10 days to ensure optimal healing. Normal activities can usually resume after 2 weeks.
  • Long-Term Recovery: Full results of the procedure become apparent after a few months, requiring patience during the healing process.
  • Post-Procedure Care: Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor healing and suture removal.
